RADIO FREQUENCY CAUTERY (RF CAUTERY)
-
The technique of Radio Surgery involves the passage of high frequency radio waves
(2 MHz) through soft tissue to cut, coagulate, or remove the tissue. Soft tissue
resistance to these radio waves causes cellular water to heat, producing steam and
resulting in molecular dissolution of tissue cells.
The surgeon uses a handpiece with an active electrode (different types of electrodes
for different applications) to transmit the radio waves. The energy is focused by an
antenna plate (patient plate) placed behind the tissue, ensuring precision and safety.
Radio Surgery offers significant advantages over conventional surgical techniques,
particularly in dermatology, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, and dental surgery.
It provides quicker operating time, rapid healing, minimal tissue damage, and less
post-operative discomfort. Unlike electrosurgery or electro-cautery, RF Cautery uses
a new technique, delivering cutting and coagulation with minimal lateral heat.
